I don’t try to push my personal politics onto everybody; would much rather have a blog that shows how politics and everyday life interesect, but please read this if you have the time. Our country has gone through some amazing changes since the Bill Kristal memo in 1992, and then when Newt swept the house. None for the better.
One point that I can talk about off the top of my head is Medicaid as I was an SSI Claims Rep. Have heard of Medicaid doing some amazingly stupid and horrible things, but taking a person’s house? A house is an “ism” or something that is essential to a person’s daily life and well being. Funny that they use an example in Florida as Florida is one of two states that allows or allowed–not going to look up the new bankruptcy laws now–people to keep their homes after declaing bankruptcy.
So in Florida you can transfer assets to your kids and keep your home. But if your only asset is your home and you only have a few thousand honestly earned dollars in the bank, it’s sayanora to your home?
In this country we make people pay for being sick; we make people pay for getting old. I fear old age not for the declining facilities I might have but for the possiblity I will have to give all my money to the government if I get sick, and then go on SSI and Medicaid. I have seen it happen too many times not to be scared. Want to fight me on this? Go to BIO where somebody will gladly take your call 800-555-5555 comment
Courting’s been nominated for a Koufax, best writing, blog, and BIO’s been nominated for best community blog. It’s been almost a year since BIO began and we have become a model for a new type of liberal community blog where we allow other voices.
And if you’re going to comment in one of my threads, you better be civil, stay on topic or add to the discussion in a meaningful way. Other than that I’m really easy.
Have a number of names to shout out; incredible blogging friends who have been helping me through this amazing wondrous journey. Unfortunately I’m too exhausted to link them now, so I hope to tomorrow.Â
If you came to Courting expecting straight politics, you have the wrong blog, though I do expect my senator, Chuckala Schumer as they call him at the apartment complex his parents live in, and my mom did, does the right thing.. I have been very disappointed by the senators from my state. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain from being proactive, and I don’t mean running a presidential campaign.Â
Manhattan was the scene of the sole attack on a civilian target in modern history. New Yorkers didn’t want the war in Iraq; nor did we want this administration.
As I said, Courting’s not a political blog in that sense. Or tries not to be. There are some great political blogs, most especially BIO. I do what I do best which is an eclectic mix/

Congrats, my dear! BIO has evolved into a wonderful place to come visit. You all really deserve this pat on the back. And I’m so glad Courting got one as well! Cheers!
Congratulations Pia. Keep me posted on when the voting begins!
Ciao for now…
Teri
Congrats. You deserve this.
congrats, both to you and to BIO as a whole! i’ve started reading BIO lately, only because of your references to it, and i can say y’all definitely deserve the honor!
I am so out of touch with all the Blog awards and such like. I really should make some effort to read some more blogs outside of my little circle of 20 or so that I regularly visit.
Unfortunatly I very much doubt my own blog will ever qualify for anything, because I keep changing it’s host every six months or so…
Keeping on eye out for when the voting begins!
Congrats! I figured it was time to check out your digs, PIA!
Congrats times 2!
Heaven knows you work it!
Congrats to everyone.
*applause*
nobody does the eclectic mix idea better than you!
I’m on SSA and would be living who knows where were it not for Tarzan & my family. So far, I know I’d never be homeless. But you never know…
Make sure you let us know when voting begins…
I am tickled pink for you and BIO… just tickled pink!
BUT… REMEMBER… if by chance you do not win… You will always be number 1 in so many little bloggers hearts!
xoxoxo
Right on! Two nominations they got right.
Congrats Pia.
