Might visit South Dakota to protest
This is crossposted at WWW.teambio.org under a different title Usually I don’t like to inflict my personal views on anybody else. This is different. The attack on Roe V Wade has begun. South Dakota even wants to ban abortions on women who were raped or had become pregnant because of incest. Sorry but I can’t keep quiet on this one
When I was fifteen my parents friends daughter went off to college.   Several days later she was in the college infirmary with what she told her parents was a bad cold. The next day her parents were told she was very sick and to come to the school somewhere in the Mid West. She had septic poisoning; she died.
In the 60′s young women didn’t usually go to their parents and say “I’m pregnant.” They found their own abortionists. Many times the person performing the abortion wasn’t’ a doctor or even a qualified nurse. They might or might not provide antibiotics, which in her case, could have staved off the blood poisoning. Most coat hanger abortionists, as they were called didn’t provide after care,
If the South Dokate ruling”>http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/23/national/23dakota.html?_r=1&oref=slogin”>ruling Gun Toting Liberal talks about in his post goes through; if Wade V Roe is overturned, we will back to the days of coat hanger abortions. Women are always going to find ways to have abortions whether or not you think that this is morally correct.
“Coat hanger abortions” are called that for a reason; many women did try to induce abortions with a coat hanger.  Then there was “fall down the stairs,” and other method almost guaranteed to cause harm to the woman as well as the fetus.
I believe very strongly in a woman’s right to choose, but I also look at it as a health issue. If you think that a woman deserves to die because she wants to have an abortion, then I hope that you can personalize this. Do you, if you’re a woman who was raped think you deserve to die because you were raped? If it’s your wife, girlfriend or daughter would you think that she deserves to die because she was raped?
Yes I know that I’m presenting the worst possible scenario, but it’s a very possible one. No woman deserves to be punished because she became pregnant and didn’t want to go through with the pregnancy for whatever reasons.Â
I speak as an adult adoptee who had an abortion. It wasn’t an experience I would choose to go through again but it was necessary and I have never regretted it.

I was considering re-locating to South Dakota.
See how absurd the above statement is? What does that tell you?
There are a few issues I take umbrage with:
1) MEN should not be telling women what to do with THEIR bodies.
2) No woman sets off to have sex thinking, “Oh, I”ll just have an abortion if I get pregnant.”
3) Nobody will ever stop abortions. They will just happen in alley ways & with coathangers.
I have more of an opinion, but this is what I’ll say for now. I’m outraged as you are.
As a guy and a catholic, I will be the first to say I am not in agreement with abortion. I will also be the first to say that being a guy doesn’t make me an expert on the subject or nor does it offer a unique perspective on the issue. That being said, it’s nobody’s business but a woman and her doctor what she chooses to do. Even if she chooses to do it indiscriminately, as some do, it’s still her business.
Being a guy, I want to have some say in the decision, especially if it’s my child, but – again, it’s not my body, I shouldn’t be asked to make that choice – even if I were married. (And I was.. married, that is.)
So, that being said, let the assault begin. People are now seeing what they voted for in 2004. I wonder if anyone’s surprised?
Of course this is a direct and deliberate attempt to make the Supreme Court revisit Roe V Wade. What’s messed up about this is that given the current bench, bringing this matter to court may only serve to pave the way for other states to do the same. I’d visit South Dakota if I could.
Well said Pia and I agree with all the ones who commented before me. It is an outrage!
I have never had an abortion but would not have had my first child, who was unplanned, were I not free to choose. I am serious. Knowing it was my choice, because I did consider aborting, made it easier to want to have my child as I was not caged. My husband said it was my choice, would stand by my decision and I kept my child. Had it been any other way, I do not know.
It is our right to choose! We are not body parts up for auction at the hands of men! I’d better stop now because there are 3 whiny kids on my hands and this is a subject I jave a hard time keeping quiet on!
I am a Great-grandmother with lots of kids and grandkids. I love babies, but there’s no way anyone can convince me that a speck is a human being with rights over a woman. When I was young,I knew someone very special who died after a coat hanger abortion. What a tragedy and an un-necessary waste of life. I’ll never forget it. I’m ashamed of my state legislators. Government should never try to control our bodies.
