This post is really about music. Being self absorbed serves some good purposes; I can always think of new ways to say the same things about me.
I was going to update my photoblog tonight but tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful and I will go down to Riverside Park where I know I will take many pictures. Though Philadelphia is very beautiful and filled with great buildings, I couldn’t get into photographing the city. I took one picture of the entrance to South Street. Yes, I love Philly rock. I loved Tony Soprano’s references to music he’s way too young to have heard originally. He showed his Jersey roots.
I find 50’s and early 60’s music comforting. It’s summer music like the Beachboys.
I’m from Long Island and would love a battle of Jersey and Island bands and singers, but Jersey has Springsteen and Bon Jovi. We have uh Billy Joel who my mother did think I should marry.
Earth Wind & Fire is going to play at The Beacon. I think I’m going to make Lucia come with me. They bring me back to a time in life when everything was less complicated
My sister and niece were talking about the song that should play when I go to light a candle at her Bat Mitzvah. My niece said “NY NY” would be the most fitting song but I wouldn’t walk up. They decided on Clapton. i suggested “Wonderful Tonight” but my sister vetoed it. The song will be “Leyla.”
I think that love of music serves to unite generations. Though I obsessively listen to one song or one CD for months, I don’t understand people who only like one genre. Most of the people on my wing only listen to classical. I find that pretentious.
But I listened to Warren Zevon’s last real CD “The Wind” for two years straight, with ocassional forays into other artists. “The Wind” helped heal me.
I think North Jersey and the Island are basically the same place, so I guess a battle of the bar bands really doesn’t matter.
But we had The Young Rascals, the Shangri-la’s, and some other cool, cool groups.
I am an Island girl. Give me an Island beach over a Shore beach anytime.
Let me listen to all music.
