Somehow I always love hearing about parent/child relationships from your perspective. These are words parents long to hear: "something strong in me that was probably imparted by my parents, a basic sense of self-respect. The second was my parents themselves."

Wonderful post and cool about meeting Dr. Spock!

Isn't it funny how we don't make these connections until later in life? We just push them away and think that we're tough. Then it all comes together in hindsight.

I was a wild child myself.
But I never got into too much trouble, just a lot of mischief. I think I was always worried about disappointing my parents. Hated to see that look in their eyes.

Lovely to see you again.

Sorry I've been away and missed so much.

Perhaps the figures are skewed because of the cause of many children ending up in the system - that their parents had similar or related issues to those the children have - meaning they were unable to cope with looking after them.

As we have learned more and more about the whole subject of adoption, we have come to realise that there is more "nature" in the "nature/nurture" story than many people like to think about.

While we hope we will be able to have an influence the children we take charge of later this year (or early next), we won't be able to guarantee it. We'll keep our fingers crossed though.
