I had the most amazing view from my cubicle when I was working there. 96th floor. Being a lowly administrative assistant in the operations division, my windows only looked out to Brooklyn (the boardroom & executives all looked out across New York Harbor). Even with the mere East River/Brooklyn view, though, it was a wonder I ever got any work done - watching the weather from up there was hypnotic. In the summer, watching thunderstorms go sweeping away across Brooklyn; in the winter, watching the ice floes travel with the tides.

The mall was a generally little too rich for my salary, but I do remember one time when one of my coworkers & I got to talking about these chocolate-covered strawberries - strawberries the size of Macintosh apples - they had in the window at Godiva...

Naturally we talked ourselves into going.

Nice post. Thanks.

Nice tribute--I'd seen the towers on several occassions, but had never gone inside, my loss.

To some you’re a symbol of the beginning of a great war. Not to those of us who knew you well. We loved you for you; Manhattan’s best indoor mall. Manhattan’s largest office complex. A restaurant with the best views and decent food. A high flying lounge with great appetizers, a piano play and wonderful views. Even an observation deck we would go to once or twice, take tourists to, watch tourists go up to. The best damn TCKTS booth in NY. The line moved rapidly and the plays seemed better as the tickets were bought from you.

Love that paragraph. It deserved to be quoted and read again :)

I echo Paisley's sentiments. Even though I visited New York, it was after "that other day" so I never knew the World Trade Center. Only thru pictures and more vividly, thru pieces like this.

"I don't want to go among mad people." Alice remarked.

"Oh, you can't help that." said the Cat. "We're all mad here."
