Have many friends in London. We’re glad our blogging buddy (and everybody else’s) Mrs. M is fine. Didn’t really mean to continue in the royal we today, but we’re a bit unnerved, and trying to distance ourselves from ourself.
Things like the transit bombing in London, bring 9/11 back to the forefront of our mind(s). It’s not what we want to be thinking about.
Can’t really concentrate today. Fave sis is coming in from the Island later this afternoon as summer is a great time to get reservations at good restaurants; fave niece is at sleep-away camp.
Can’t even think of the right things to say. One thing we do know is that the New York City police department is the best trained in the country, maybe the world to deal with things like this. We trust them very very much.
When the going gets tough; we go for a manicure/pedicure.
So do many other women. Tragedies fill up the nail salons; and women who normally wouldn’t talk to each other, do. Just an observation borne from too many tragic events.
We hope and pray that terrorist attacks stop. Nobody should have to go through them. Nobody!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks love! It’s ok.. Londoners are a tough breed. We survived Nazis, the IRA, the Kray Twins, Jack the Ripper, etc.. lol
Yes, it sucks, but we don’t have the same outlook as the US does on these incidents. We won’t be held emotional captive for long. This is nothing as bad as 911, and I hope that the ‘war on terror’ doesn’t turn it into a mediafest..
how convenient for them, huh?
Ever the cynic.. and tough Brit, xx
Well be back on the tubes in a day or so..
Ditto. Seems like the blogging world’s taking it all in stride but here in my office everybody’s a bit drawn (and nervous, and sad.) Whenever these things happen, it’s like a cancer coming out of remission, suddenly you don’t feel so well …
Exactly. But like the Brit’s, we’re tough and resiliant. It’s just going through the first day that’s so difficult
A friend dragged my nearly due pregnant self out for a facial after 9/11, and it was a Godsend, I was so hormonal and freaked out. I can see how a manicure would be nice today.
Pia,
you have such a warm & caring heart, it really comes across in your writing. so does the fact that 9/11 is still so raw to you. i hope your manicure/pedicure help to relax. although i cant stand for strangers to touch my feet, the thought makes me cringe. anyways….take it easy
Here-here for what Chandira said! I couldn’t say it better.
I’m an ex-Londoner but live in the UK and spent the day on the phone checking on everyone. It was frightening as the news unfolded and I suspect the perpetrators got what they wanted with the fear but not much more.
38 dead, 700+ injured
hugs from l.a…. again!
not only do i require daily hugs from friends, but i require them after tragedies..
rant
Today’s attacks once again show that we can not stand idly by and “negotiate” with these kind of people. They are the garbage of this world and somebody has to take it out!
/end of rant
PS: More importantly, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of London, the victims and their families!
its scary,,
while riding the subway back home from work,, there were police on the train,, full armor,, rifles, helmets,, i hate living like that, my thoughts are with the people for london.. just when you think your safe,, that we`re doing ok,, the evil in this world reminds us otherwise
I got to visit London about 20 years ago and loved it. I really felt at home there–it wasn’t New York, but it had the same big city feel to it. So it’s not “my city” but I do feel a connection to it today.
Those of us in NY and DC have spent the last 4 years pushing 9/11 to the far corners of our minds as much as we can, because if we don’t we’d go nuts. We don’t forget about it–quite obvious from Pia, from me and anyone else who blogs–but we do try to concentrate on living our lives in the NOW.
But today it’s back–all the dread and the fear…………..
pia…
look I know we’ve had a pretty big disagreement and well… please come by and read my latest post. Thanks.

I think I understand you a whole lot better.
I really hate to say this, in a way, but … each country that fought in Iraq was warned about this kind of ugly retaliation. It’s terrible and hurtful and insidious in the way that war breeds hatred and death. I’m out of answers today and saddened again by the deaths of so many innocents, that’s for sure. Thanks for your kind words about my pal. It means a lot to have people support her through their positive energy. God knows, she needs it.
does your favorite nail salon have cnn blasting at you on a big screen all the time like mine? because that doesn’t really relax me, but you were right about one thing: it does get people talking who normally wouldn’t.
I did think of 9/11 and wish the terrorists would have kept it between the US and themselves. “sigh” My prayers will be long for a while.
I have friends in London and yesterday I was very disturbed and upset when I saw the footage. I started making phonecalls and I just felt incredibly sick. I hate what’s happening in the world today. I wish things were different.
You do seem to have such a kind and caring soul.
It is an attack on all decent human beings. We are all in this together. Thoughts and prayers for London.
