As Destiny Doesn’t Come Calling

The Obligatory Best of Post, part one

I am the worst judge of the best of posts; will have part two on Monday; any suggestions are welcome. I’m also technically challenged and several links just refused to be team players. Am including it in personal essays because all except California noir dreaming, are. Sorry if there are any repeats.

This begins in 2004; when nobody including me read Courting.

True-crimes-and-punishment is one of my early posts and very different than any thing else!

Back in another less innocent life begins the Zachary stories though the others come much later.

City life in the last century is really about how Duane Reade drug stores and Korean grocery stores made life in 1980’s New York much much easier. I will always love Duane Reade for that but I don’t usually go there anymore!

A Seasonal Moment is short for me; and I had forgotten about the incident until I was going through the archives. Made me smile!

This is a rant about the bank I truly hate, and am finally going to leave.

Fairway and me and the world is about a grocery store I live two blocks from. Seem to live two blocks from everything, including a Duane Reade. Fairway’s an experience you don’t want to repeat but do constantly.

When you’re brought up on The New Yorker I never have normal crushes; have had a decades long one on Calvin Trillin

James Spader William Shatner uh Denny Crane as I said I never have normal crushes. No it’s not Shatner

California Noir Dreaming is one of my personal favorites.

Rally Days shows what a novice I was to the world of political blogging. I wil never apologize for loving my country, and opposing needless wars

Who am I? is a question many have asked

Who’s your daddy? Being adopted is something I find totally normal

Sams Summer is one of my favorites as I still remember the night the gentleman came calling.

Lucia and I… is the third version of this story. Have the prior ones linked to this.

The Oldest Child on The LIRR, April 23, 2004. The link won’t take. Protesting all the rides to Long Island because ‘it’s so much easier for you.” Then what? I can take in food with the best of them

When I was a wild thing, May 27, 2005

Mold Farm, June 28, 2005–my brain on rain doesn’t let links take

That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it

13!

Happy New Year Pia–and if you woo Calvin Trillin away from his work and the two of you ride off into the sunset–can you put in a word for me with his editor–I’d love to do nothing more than travel and eat great food, that someone else pays for, and then write about it. Thanks for the offer to talk regarding dealing with Alzhemiers–I may come knocking one day. blessings.

Have a Happy New Year, sweetie - may all your dreams and wishes come true!

Hello Mia and Happy New Year. I have been reading your blog sometime now through Blog Explosion and I really enjoy it. If you wrote a book, I would but it. I think your blog is very interesting and I look forward to reading more of your life in the coming year.

Happy New Year Sweet Lady Pia!

By the way… did you know that Pia is a Danish name? Well, or at least one widely used in Denmark…

  7. 7

I love both your names! Your first name initially drew me to your site, as it gave me a feeling of home, and your writing and adventures made me stay… Here’s to many years of blogging… there are many of us here in the blogosphere just thirsting for those Courting Destiny anecdotes! We’re hooked oh wise one!

I personally like the James Spader post… maybe that is because I love him. ;) I wish you a very Happy New Year and love the thoughts of continuing to read you throughout 2006… Cheers!

Pia–thank you for being part of the “Best Of” MY 2005. Discovering you was finding rare treasure. Here’s to a great 2006!!

Happy New Year, Pia!!!!! Sorry I’ve been among the missing lately…holiday madness, bronchial congestion, and an attempt to get off my ass and “feel the burn” (as opposed to feeling the burn of my laptop on my thighs).

Hope you have a wonderful year!

Happy New Year Pia! I liked the Denny Crane post too, though I have more reading to do, so that’s subject to change. The in-laws left today (finally!) so I’m catching up on my blogging. I just read your interview on Day By Day. As I said there, you continue to impress me. Great job. Look forward to reading more of you this year.
