As Destiny doesn’t come calling

A last conversation

My last conversation with my mother “Going to see the new Bruce Willis movie with the girls. Speak to you tomorrow.” We were supposed to celebrate her birthday. We picked out her casket. Knew my mother would die someday but she took such good care of herself—had a physical on her birthday 10/10. Thought I had some more time. Shouldn’t have thought that; should have learned from 9/11.

Please read Shayna’s post. Like Shayna it’s amazing, and important

What does freedom mean to you? And other things.

Jane left one of the funniest comments I have ever read on the post below. Well, it made me laugh. However her newest post ain’t funny at all but necessary reading.

IM Dedd always makes me laugh. He even mentions one of my very favorite subjects in this weeks cartoon. He’s BIO’s resident cartoonist and is putting in a cartoon inspired by something I wrote. I’m honored and flattered.

Watched a video on 9/11 at BIO this morning. It made me think about freedom. There are several questions that I want to ask, and frankly, I’m not sure if I’m going to ask them all this week or spread them out of several weeks. Reserve the right to change my mind and only ask the following:

WHAT DOES FREEDOM MEAN TO YOU? Not looking for essays, though they’re always acceptable. Just a few words. Doesn’t even have to be freedom in the traditional sense, but freedom from late cold winters for one quick example.

I might summarize the answers here or in BIO; haven’t decided yet. Continue Reading »

Something to do on a Sunday

Type the word “asshole” into a regular google search bar—hit “I feel lucky”  See what comes up.   Generally don’t like using words that people might find offensive.  Not in this case.

If you have the time and the stomach go to BIO, and see an amazing video on 9/11.  Don’t watch it at night.

I have seen many, and this one, this one not only brought  up brilliant questions, one I will ask tomorrow, but showed why I don’t find the word “asshole” offensive in this case.

Don’t usually have to use my sidebar comment policy anymore.  I immediately delete comments made by Internet trolls with too much time.  This is my blog, it’s not covered under The First Amendment.  I emphasis this so much because I am no longer a newbie to blogging, and just love it when people threaten me with all the same tired things, and then say “I have friends.”

While Courting is a personal blog that I use for various purposes–read Summer of Sam–below if you haven’t, I have strong beliefs.  Last week tested them something fierce.

The Single most boring person alive

That’s me this weekend. Had a longer post prepared but the server ate it.

I won that title because I feel like I could sleep for days. Some people only usually get sick on weekends when they actually have interesting things planned. I’m one of them. Find that to be the only interesting thing about me today.

My site’s been acting funky. At times you can only see the template, left side bar and skin, I guess it’s called, but nothing in “more” and can’t get to comments.

Guess my site and i want to be sick together.

Now I have to call a Chinese restaurant and order much soup, fresh juices, seltzer and diet coke; but my sister made me feel very guilty about the poor delivery men who have to be out in the cold and wind. But it’s their job and I tip well.

Might visit South Dakota to protest

This is crossposted at WWW.teambio.org under a different title  Usually I don’t like to inflict my personal views on anybody else.  This is different.  The attack on Roe V Wade has begun.  South Dakota even wants to ban abortions on women who were raped or had become pregnant because of incest.  Sorry but I can’t keep quiet on this one

When I was fifteen my parents friends daughter went off to college.    Several days later she was in the college infirmary with what she told her parents was a bad cold.  The next day her parents were told she was very sick and to come to the school somewhere in the Mid West.  She had septic poisoning; she died. The other 9/11 families

found errors in here.  Needs editing, mostly copy–leaving it up because it’s important to me, and Duke Dawg Doug already commented, and he has the best blog roll in the blogging world.  Waking Ambrose–which I have under Bitter Bierce.  If you’re going to steal friends, steal them from Doug. I always do!  But I share.  And now feel too sick to change anything!

Think the voting for the Koufax might begin soon.  Everybody who reads Courting knows that I love lurkers–just vote for me and BIO.  And if you do or have commented will answer tomorrow

I have written extensively for both Courting and BIO on how 9/11 changed my world.  The next month my mom fell and died.

Call October, 2001 the month New York ran out of empathy.  When I would try to tell somebody about my mom, I would be told:

”Had two nephews who died at the Trade Center.”

”It’s been six days.  Snap out of it.  Think of the younger people.” Continue Reading »

Bloggers Wall, and Boston Legal

Truly the wrong time to hit the bloggers wall, but it’s the eighteenth mile, and my brain is cramped.  I sorta acted like a crazy lady at the bank because they were out of quarters.  My building has never changed over to pay for a card, slip it into the machine, civilized method.  It’s very sad when one of your biggest dreams in life is space for a washer dryer.  Continue Reading »

I WAS A DENTAL BULIMIC* AND OTHER SORTA RICH GIRL WOES

I’m from Long Island which is a cliche in itself. Am proud to be from Nassau County which led the way in suburbs, the great, the good, the bad, the ugly. Think there have been many great changes in the past decade–it’s a Democrat stronghold. Have a story somewhere in the archives how I was on the train after the one Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy lost her husband, and her son was badly injured. There was a two minute time difference in the trains. The first was the 5:29; the second the 5:31. Took the second because my stop was the first one, not the last one. Continue Reading »

BIO HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR A KOUFAX ALSO

I don’t try to push my personal politics onto everybody; would much rather have a blog that shows how politics and everyday life interesect, but please read this if you have the time.  Our country has gone through some amazing changes since the Bill Kristal memo in 1992, and then when Newt swept the house.  None for the better.
