As Destiny doesn’t come calling

Compulsion

Dear blog
Can we finally admit that we’re compulsive? But first, we just turned off the AC, and can smell the honey suckle. Let’s take a second to smell the honey suckle.

Two years ago last week, a friend did a favor we will never forget. She held our hand, so to speak, as we confronted our dental bulimia and phobia. We don’t joke about bulimia as we battled that also in our 20’s, and have the stomach scars to show the battles.

That friend talked us into beginning blogs. We thought a blog would be a cool way of seeing how our writing looked in print. We also got that friend a free lance job because she had the skill set needed.

We didn’t know that she would lie about us, and cost us several friendships and all our publishing connections. When we asked her why she lied, she said she just wanted to know more about somebody we knew.

Because we can be an idiot, we defended her then. We really didn’t understand what defending her would cost us.

When we did understand we severed our friendship with her. There were other reasons. She told us that we’re a rich bitch with no understanding of real people who have to hustle for freelance work.

She didn’t seem to realize that we’re seventeen years older than her and when we were her age we worked full time or more than full time, and we put off our dream to write until we were finally in a position to do it without hustling for work.

We were very hurt. So one day we followed StephK, another mutual acquaintance who wasn’t involved in any of this into Blog Explosion. Yes our lives did change as we worked our ass off, in between dental surgeries and visits.

Oh blog we love you so much. Maybe our love for borders on obsession or maybe we compulsively post because we’re afraid of the big bad world.

Maybe the big bad world isn’t so bad after all. It’s just that so many things have happened to us in the past fifteen years, we loved to retreat into your cocoon.

Tomorrow begins our favorite month. July when the country and us celebrate birthdays. We long ago declared all of July to be birthday month and then added August.

This July will be spent productively. Even if productively means stopping to smell the honeysuckle, going to parties, being around people. And yes, working on our book over you, dear blog. You really do have to come in tenth now.

We love you as much as ever. We hope that you understand when we only update you once or twice a week.

7!

    Dear Pia:

OK, I guess I’ll have to muddle through somehow. You deserve a break. Have a happy birthday, enjoy partying wit your friends, all the best as you write your book, and stop by when you have the time to freshen me up now and then.

    Much love,

    Your Blog (aka, You)

That’s too bad with your friendships. I started my blog as a way for me to rant and rave, and now I’m so addicted to it, and reading other people’s blogs, that my husband regretted buying me a laptop. ;-)

Sorry about the lying weasel of a “friend”. I am in the same love July boat - enjoy the ride and I think your blog understands, you two seem to have a great relationship.

I can sympathise totally, as I have this severe addiction as well. I can only look to people like you who are striving to overcome it!
