But first a word from our regularly…

June 19, 2005 By pia

When I was looking at my stats, I came across a Yahoo search “James Spader William Shatner.”

I was curious so I clicked and Courting was number 2 out of 145,000. Don’t usually click on to search terms, but just seeing the name James Spader makes my heart flip flop. Courting was right under the James Spader William Shatner unofficial fan site. Does anybody have an official fan site?

Maybe this means that Boston Legal will actually be back in the fall. Know it was announced that it will be on Tuesday nights on ABC, but I’m not really big on trusting anybody or anything right now. ABC/Disney/James Dobson; total conspiracy to rid the world of the one TV program that talks about First Amendment issues.

The thing about blogs is that we have taken over the top rankings in many search terms. Was googling something several weeks ago, Courting was number one. Forget exactly what the search was–something to do with the 1968 student movement, and there weren’t 145,000 entries but it was sizable.

Ever since then I have stopped trusting search engines for research purposes. Search engines are like the Bush family; you have to put up with them for now, but you don’t have to like them.

Blogs might have really great information, but they’re no substitute for using more nuanced primary and secondary sources. Then again maybe they have become great sources; maybe I’m just jaded and world weary.

If I have the time tomorrow I’m changing and adding some categories. All the Terri posts will be in a “Terri Schiavo” category. Honestly changing categories fall under the heading “boring and mundane; would love to hire a kid to do it.” But alas it’s the kind of thing that I have to do myself–who else would know where to put things? This post will be under the categories: James Spader and blogging. There are probably better categories but it’s very humid, I had to wait on line just to go into Tiffany’s where I couldn’t stop giggling each time I asked where I could find a silver necklace for an elementary school graduation gift.

There were so many tourists. Almost literally walked into a group of five adults who were holding hands–adults holding hands in the midst of a crowded store; maybe they had good reason to hold hands, but couldn’t they have divided into groups of two? I walked home I had to weave in and out of groups of tourists. Used to love weekends in Manhattan, now I hate them. But we’re not supposed to complain about tourists; we’re supposed to treat them like favored relatives to show how nice we are and appreciative that they come to our city. Even Riverside Park which always used to be empty–god love it, is packed now. Right, new category, bitching about New York.

When I began Courting I had no idea that I would be writing so much political stuff. Really don’t want to; really want to write posts like the one I hope to put in tomorrow; A tale of two stores: Tiffany’s and Alexander’s. Am very into my self-help series on how to be an individual in a conformist world. I excel at the individualist part. Couldn’t be a conformist if I wanted to be (parental conditioning).

This is too much: a picture in a national magazine where I actually look good, and Courting is number 2 out of 145,00 entries for James Spader William Shatner. My cup almost runneth over. Almost because it would be so nice to be paid for this–and a book contract, maybe?

My agent can be contacted at….Can’t say. Excuse me while I check my technorati ranking.

I do not often leave comments on blogs I found through BlogExplosion (such as this one), but this post, and the ones below it, caught my eye.

I have to admit, the single-minded dedication through which you insert some manner of anti-Bush statement into what seems to be every one of your posts is remarkably disturbing.

Sure, stand up for what you believe in. But finding some, admittedly small, way to attack the bush’s in a post about search terms? That indicates a very single-minded person.

Thanks for the anaylsis. Until this week I hadn’t posted on Teri since her death.

I wrote a post earlier in the week, one today, and yes, put it in the second that I wrote today because I am very bothered by Jeb Bush’s investigation.

Anyway thanks again. Next time I need my work to be analyzed, I’ll be sure to stop by your blog and ask you to do it.

About Me

I live in the South, not South Florida, a few blocks from the ocean, and two blocks from the main street. It's called Main Street. Amazes me too.

I'm from New York. I mostly lived in the Mid-Upper East Side, and the heart of the Upper West Side. It amazes me when people talk about how scared they were of Times Square in the 1970's and 1980's.

As my mother said: "know the streets, look out and you'll be fine."

What was scary was the invasion of the crack dens into "good buildings in good 'hoods." And the greedy landlords who did everything they could to get good tenants out of buildings.

I'm a Long Island girl, and proud of it now.
Then I hated everything about the suburbs. Yet somehow I lived in a few great Long Island Sound towns after high school.
