I have long liked Kyra Sedgwick. She has a coolness about her even when she’s portraying a powerful woman cop who dresses “like ’70’s Talbot.” Her description of her character in The Closer. My new favorite TV show, until Boston Legal comes back.
Kyra Sedgwick’s character just can’t get the men to respect her. No matter how good she is; she’s quirky and laden with faults and I love her.
Kyra’s married to Kevin Bacon; how many degrees of separation from him is she? I have no idea; and only think about it when I should be doing other things. How many degrees of speparation are their kids?
I forgot that some people might not know the game: Six degrees of Separation from Kevin Bacon. He’s been in many movies and it’s generally assumed that every actor is one or three movies or TV shows or something away from him.
That last paragraph and this one are additions. A comment said that I made assumptions about Kyra Sedgwick and her family. If anybody knows the assumptions that I made please let me know. I didn’t talk about Kyra Sedgwick being quirky; I said her character is. That’s not an assumption. Also when one discusses a character one is entitled to express any opinion; same thing with a public figure. Fact: Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are married. Fact: they have children. Fact: Kyra Sedgwick said somewhere that her character wears ’70’s type Talbot clothes. I loved that statement as it said a lot.
I said that she has a coolness about her. That’s an opinion not an assumption. So where are the assumptions?

One Memorial Day weekend my friends and I each read a Princess Diana special issue of People that explained cousins to the inth degree. I had it memorized. But when I met my cousins did I remember this? No of course not.

If I can’t impress people with my incredible wealth of knowledge from People what good am I? And have you ever looked at the letters to the editor, and wondered why? Why do people write these letters? In case you’ve never read one I will make a few up:
To the Editor
I think that Brad should have stayed with Jennifer. She is such a lady and deserves much happiness in her life. Jennifer has suffered too much.
Sincerely
Rhonda J Burns
How do you know that Jennifer is a lady who suffered and is deserving of happiness? (I’m sure she is, and just wrote this because it was too easy.) She has much money, but we all know that doesn’t buy happiness, especially People readers and its clones
To the Editor
Angelina is a saint and as such should be with Brad because he’s the only person worthy of her.
Sincerely
Lara Kraft—People fact checked her name and yes it’s real. They also discovered that she’s Rhonda’s older sister but don’t say that, or that the name is real.
By this time who cares about any of them?
Then you think: why do I read the letters week after week? And I have a blog; isn’t that just as self serving? Then you want to get back into bed and spend the rest of your life there. But you don’t; because you have a blog. And a life that you’ve been neglecting for your blog(s).
So how many degrees of separation is Kyra from Kevin? That is a truly important question.
I would guess that if one is on the west coast and the other is on the east coast, that would be about 60 degrees of separation. Unless, of course, you also want to take into consideration the degree differences in temperature, then that would be a whole different mathematical issue to figure into the equation. Hmmm. I think I’ll just stick with the original separation thing.
Never understood the degrees thing. I must, however, agree with Ms. Burns on this one 😉
Take care, Pia.
I agree about The Closer. It is a great show and Kyra Sedgwick is awesome in it. I’m looking forward to watching it tonight.
People with nothing going on in their lives (which may not be the case but many people are just not aware of what they really do – clueless) usually try to live vicariously. Celebrity is an age old affliction and even 2,000 years ago, Caesar and Pompey exerted the same fascination with the common folks, as they were celebrities. (The reason I bring this up is because I saw Rome last night on HBO and was struck by the similarities). 2,000 years later, who will remember anyone from our time – maybe Einstein ? certainly Hitler (at least for the number of people he killed) Who else I wonder? Certainly not George Bush, unless it was for the most stupid President of all time!
Maybe I’m just missing the subtle irony, but are you opening a critique about celebrity fascination with your own celebrity-ogling at Kyra Sedgwick and her family? You’re making just as many assumptions about Sedgwick as the fictional Aniston fan is making…
Am curious as to what assumptions I made.
Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are married and have kids. I like her performance in “The Closer.” I like what she said about her character. I like how it portrays a woman in a powerful position.
If that’s ogling call me guilty.
I did the People thing because I was in the mood to, and it went with the celebrity tone of the post. Don’t usually write about celebrities.
I happen to like Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Readily admit that this wasn’t one of my best posts by a long shot. However it didn’t call for your really stupid comment.
Spent the major part of the weekend arguing men who have nothing to say but say it anyway. am tired of that. Never you MD or Bone.
So what did I assume about Kyra Sedgwick and her family?
6 degrees of seperation from Kevin Bacon is a game that has been around for a long time.
Should put that in the post, I guess.
Kyra is 1 degree, or 0, if that’s an option. Following the rules of the game, she was in The Woodsman with Kevin last year.
I always wonder about these faceless random people who feel they are ideally equipped to make decisions for complete strangers. It must be nice to be that sure of your opinions/intuition. I bet their lives are perfect and/or sort of boring, since they have so much time and expertise to second guess celebrities life decisions.
Get a grip. If you get so touchy over such a throwaway post, I’d hate to see how you react to critique over a serious topic…
Yes, I’m making assumptions, and since this was a near stream-of-conscious post, I really don’t think I was off-base in doing so. Consider: You start wondering about a Hollywood celeb, then about her spouse and children (I’m familiar with the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” thing, thanks — I even remember the guys who allegedly “invented” having their 15 minutes of fame on Arsenio Hall), then you segue into People.
So yeah, I’m guessing you have positive feelings about Sedgwick, based on nothing more solid than the fan adulation on display in People’s letter page.
Bear in mind, I’m not slamming you for it. Everyone does it, in one form or another, to different degrees. I just found it funny, and wondered if you were doing it intentionally. Obviously, you weren’t.
Actually I react very well to critiques on serious subjects. Spent most of the weekend answering comments on a serious subject in another blog
I stated that I like Kyra Sedgwick, in the first part of the first sentence; how could that be inferred as an assumption? I do take words seriously
I assume that you found your original comment to be clever and witty. I didn’t. I’m not in a game playing mood.
I’m aware of my style; I’m aware of how I sequed from Sedgwick to People
I come across your blog in the BlogExplosion lineup quite often (blogmarked you some time ago).
I do enjoy your posts and writing style. This post was no exception (have no answer to the “truly important” question, but spent a couple of seconds thinking about it and btw, I like her new series); Thanks for the smiles.
oh lordy, i must be 100 degrees at least of separation from all of the above, lol! i don’t even know who kyra is! but i do like the name. 🙂
i like brad better with angelina, they both have such a humanitarian heart about them.
omgosh pia, you just commented on my blog as i’m commenting on yours! weird huh
