BIO, Blogging and Me

February 16, 2006 By pia

I have a post at BIO. It’s a follow-up to my post on Monday on New York Magazine and blogging. Why did I write a post on blogging for a political blog?  Because everything is political.

We have watched mainstream media, blogging and politics intersect.  It’s interesting but I’m not sure all for the best.  Who will watch the watchdog?

Blogs like BIO; and yes I’m proud to be part of the best political community blog with a liberal slant–or bias, change that depending on my mood.

On the subject of blogging, Courting was nominated for a Koufax award, best writing, blog.  Courting and I would love to thank whoever nominated us!

It’s seven AM and I haven’t been to sleep yet; Lucia and I went to see Abigail’s Party; the entire first act set up the action for the excellent second act.

Lucia loved the set which is exactly her style; retro 70’s in a good way.  That was all she liked about it!

After the play we continued writing our own play; one we have been perfecting for years.

“What do you want to do?”

“I don’t know, what you want to do?”

It goes on. We stole it from Marty a brilliant movie that took place in the Bronx where Lucia grew up, and I always romanticized; that story is for another time.

Okay, when I was eleven I thought that boys from the Bronx were way cool,  so I wanted my first boyfriend to be from the Bronx.  That summer at my no frills sleep away camp my boyfriend, hot fingers Marc, won’t say why he was called that, was from Queens but went to Bronx Science.

I was entering seventh grade, he was going into tenth, but had skipped twice.  I was supposed to do seventh and eighth grade in one year. However, one fateful day I received a letter from my parents saying that we were moving to some suburban town I had never heard of.

When I say no frills I mean no child alive today would be caught dead in it.  It was amazing.

Back to last night:

I only obsessed for half the show; this time over my BIO post.  For some reason it was both difficult to write though I knew what I wanted to say, and had done all the research.

Have to admit that the research was easy since I’m just a blogging fool, and read everything I can on it.  Didn’t go into the big blogs that show you how to blog as I have talked about that before.

worked on my BIO post until two, began cleaning my apartment, thought of more things that I wanted to say, worked on my post again, went back to cleaning.  Thought about the post some more, added something, deleted something else.

Anything I do today will be dedicated to my dad as today would have been his birthday. I will probably try to sleep for awhile.  Think he will understand as he liked sleep also especially after working for too many hours.  Am too tired to be coherent.

Had two hours sleep.  Feel great but I meant for my post to read much differently.

If you are a regular Courting reader and can prove it, you can vote for this as the most disjointed nonsensical post in recent memory.  Then again you can vote for any other post you wish.

If this makes sense to you, you know me better than I know me

Sad sad and lonely

If I had the wings of an angel

over these prison walls I would fly

I was about 25 when I realized that most father’s didn’t sing songs about armed robbers to their children, neices and nephews.  That was one of the many reasons we loved him so much despite his love of Ronald Reagan.

My dad was my best friend; my favorite date, and the person I could always count on.  Well, usually.

Thank you daddy and mommy for teaching me that sometimes the rocky winding road with sharp curves is the better and more fun road.  Thank you for believing that I was the most brilliant person on the planet despite my many imperfections.

Thank you for providing me with so many great memories, and some memories that…well you never wanted me to believe in false idols and I never have.

This wasn’t the original tribute I wrote.  Having a bad Internet connection and Gmail day.  Maybe my parents spirits are telling me to get off the computer.

“It’s a beautiful day.  Take a walk. Be outside.”

Beautiful days were any that didn’t have thunderstorms at that particular moment or blizzards again at that moment.

Congratulations on the nomination. I’m not sure what a kofax award is but I will check it out.

Congrats on the nomination dear Pia. Means a lot yet also nothing because you don’t need an award for us to love you and know your worth. And yet so much because someone was thinking of you and your talent and admiring you and loving you and that is how things should be with regards to our Pia!

I loved the post. Am I weird for understanding it? Well, if normal is being like the “others” then I will take weird any day!

Thanks for dropping by! It has been hell here with a sick hubby, two extremely whiny kids and a filthy house… so I have not been able to post… was thinking so much of you and how great it would be to be able to come on over and see you and then you wanted to invite me for coffee (or not!)… I’ll be right over! Can I have some tea?

*sigh* A bohemian can only dream!

    Pia, I just love you!

We know why you called him that; you aren’t the only one who went to sleep-away camp.

About Me

I live in the South, not South Florida, a few blocks from the ocean, and two blocks from the main street. It's called Main Street. Amazes me too.

I'm from New York. I mostly lived in the Mid-Upper East Side, and the heart of the Upper West Side. It amazes me when people talk about how scared they were of Times Square in the 1970's and 1980's.

As my mother said: "know the streets, look out and you'll be fine."

What was scary was the invasion of the crack dens into "good buildings in good 'hoods." And the greedy landlords who did everything they could to get good tenants out of buildings.

I'm a Long Island girl, and proud of it now.
Then I hated everything about the suburbs. Yet somehow I lived in a few great Long Island Sound towns after high school.
