Koufax Awards

March 5, 2006 By pia

Let me explain how to vote: I linked the categories below this paragraph. It might say voting isn’t open yet. It is; please scroll all the way down to comments. That’s past the large block word “Current.”

Voting is in the comments–the first vote in best writing is by Jacob who I can’t thank enough and there are many other people–some of whom I shouted out on Friday and will again. Only one vote person counts.
*************************************************************************************************
I am nominated in two categories: best writing, blog; and best blog non professional–Just in case I didn’t make that clear–didn’t know about the best blog nomination, but if there was ever a non-professional….:-) But a very knowledgeable one….
This is for best writing, blog

Here’s best blog, non professional

BIO is nominated for best blog community. We have spent a year making it so; we’re different, and give everybody a voice to let out their inner politico. Ken Grandlund, was nominated for best series. He’s a great thinker and friend to both Courting and BIO. Tom Harpur
of BIO and one of the two best named blogs Who Hijacked our Country? has also been nominated as has Moxxiegrrl Sar, who has the other best named blog, Belle of the Brawl has just begun one at BIO–say hello to her there as blogger seems to be down

Cooper, Esoteric Wombat, Miz Bohemia, and Shayna have begun diaries. Plugged them all on Friday and will again later this week because they all blow me away. And wow have they helped.

IM Dedd is BIO’s resident BOB award winning cartoonist. He puts in a new cartoon once a week.

Other interesting and exciting bloggers will be mentioned later this week. One of the great things about blogging is that it introduced me to many wonderful people. If you would like to be mentioned please send a thousand dollars in a plain envelope to 555 Bribery Road.

Courting is where politics meets social issues meets city living meets me.

Truly truly is a wonderful honor to be nominated in two super amazing incredible categories. Do feel very honored. Just me, Savannah Falls 3 my latest desktop, and our imaginary dog, Toto, a Golden Retriever. If I’m going to imagine a dog it’s going to be one that fits in a larger apartment than mine.

There are many great blogs; there are many blogs that while not considered “professionals,” border a line. There’s no way that I can compete with the Huffington Report, the Kos and many other blogs. Would love to make into the finals especially for best writing. Arianna Huffington while might not be an expert in a particular field, has mucho mucho money, and many experts in various fields writing for the Huffington Report. The kos–don’t get me started.

To me blogging is about forging new communities, being exposed to many varying points of views, and exploring new ways to communicate. I am happy just to be part of this revolution, and it truly is a revolution in communication. It does bring power to the people.

I am amazed that I began a blog to practice writing in, because I love to write, and love to see how things look published. Had absolutely no understanding of blogs, had no idea what a blog roll was, think I understood linking, but uh, it took me awhile to figure out how to. How did I get from there to here? Still trying to figure that one out!

Learned from the BOB’s how difficult judging can be. Would love to thank the judges.

About Me

I live in the South, not South Florida, a few blocks from the ocean, and two blocks from the main street. It's called Main Street. Amazes me too.

I'm from New York. I mostly lived in the Mid-Upper East Side, and the heart of the Upper West Side. It amazes me when people talk about how scared they were of Times Square in the 1970's and 1980's.

As my mother said: "know the streets, look out and you'll be fine."

What was scary was the invasion of the crack dens into "good buildings in good 'hoods." And the greedy landlords who did everything they could to get good tenants out of buildings.

I'm a Long Island girl, and proud of it now.
Then I hated everything about the suburbs. Yet somehow I lived in a few great Long Island Sound towns after high school.
