Drum, Secrecy, ante–Three Word Wednesday–fiction

February 7, 2007 By pia

Here’s Wombat & Savage’s Boston Legal blog.

Most of my post went into Blog Hell. But my 248 word story was saved, <a href="http://Bone supplied the words. He claims that I’m his mentor but I think that it might be the other way around

¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢¢

Nell was desolate. She had planned and planned on breaking up with Todd, spent so many hours looking into a mirror as she changed a facial expression, twitched a muscle in her cheek and practiced variations of:
“Todd, for sometime now, this hasn’t been working out. We don’t even seem to like each other. Sex? Find a woman who likes it over in 167 seconds, start to finish.”

Nell hadn’t really planned on mentioning the sex part, but she looked so cute when she said it. Her voice was perfectly modulated. Her eyes and lips looked big round and sad. It would have been her best break up speech yet.

The phone had rung. It was Roosevelt Hospital letting her know that Todd had been admitted and was in the intensive care unit. Apparently he had been thrown off his bike by a hit and run driver.

Nell was livid. Todd had told her this morning he wasn’t going to ride his bike because the rain was too heavy. He lied about the most stupid of things and had a penchant for secrecy that equaled the Mafia’s.

Nell went to the African drum where they kept a steel box with important papers. She took everything.. He better survive, and survive without massive brain damage. She had never wanted to break up so badly. Now the ante was higher. Nell wasn’t going to spend the rest of her life playing the dutiful wife She had been doing it for 27 years.

Here are three bloggers that have inspired and continue to inspire me. There are more and as is becoming traditional around the blogosphere Friday will be shout out day, though I can’t be trusted to post on the correct day.

Bone wrote one of the most best and touching posts that I have ever read. It began with Anna Nicole Smith’s death, and then went into legacies. Real legacies, not the money kind. It’s been my joy to watch his evolution as a writer over the past year and some months.

Read the Wombat’s amazing lyrics on his blog It’s Robert Johnson meets EC meets EW plus more.

See Cooper’s growth as a blogger, writer and person by examining her Valentine Day posts.

When you watch people grow as bloggers and writers, you’re also watching them grow as people. All their posts show that. I can’t thank them enough for their support.

Lisa Sabin Wilson
who designed Courting is writing WordPress for Dummies. It must have helped her immensely in writing this book to have me as a client.

One thing I did say in the post that I lost and will say again is that no Democratic candidate should ever bow to pressure from the radical right. Would Republican’s ever listen to “liberals?” Hell, no, they would have Malkin & Coulter deride the bloggers.

While Edwards ultimately didn’t, he did consider firing the bloggers.

To say that he didn’t know what was on their blogs is absurd. A quick Google check will bring up many posts

The worst parts of my life can be found on your nearest search engine. The posts provide a distorted view of my life, but there’s nothing that I can do about it, or the posts written to ridicule me.

I have resorted to sarcasm, irony and even obscenities though I’m really not into four letter words. In 04 and 05 the radical right believed that they owned the blogging world, and had the right to tell people what they could and couldn’t post on.

Nobody gave these people the right to tell others what to say, but the climate in the country was conducive to censorship.

I fought back the only way I knew how, through writing even stronger posts. What many people didn’t understand that politics only interests me as it affects the social structure or our country

I believe that abortion is a woman’s absolute right though it is usually the most painful decision a woman will ever make.

I believe that stem cell research is vital to improving quality of the already alive lives.

I believe that The Constitution and Bill of Rights was cleverly designed to move forward with time, not backward.

I believe that our country shouldn’t have horrible health care stats but the best.

I must state that I understand “moral relativist” is used as a purgative, and that’s one of the reasons I love being called one so much. If you have to think about that, you don’t get it, and that’s fine with me.

Most members of the radical right get their information from many sources, and form their world view from those sources, yet somehow their moral code comes from a Bible. I’m not even sure that my Bible, The Old Testament, counts as the right Bible.

Mostly I believe that a society is only as good as its weakest member.

This blog is my private property. All comments belong to me, and I decide which to keep and which to delete. I hate those two sentences but have found them necessary because I have no intention of letting any person abusing my comments, or my blog.

I appreciate comments on my story, not this part.

You guys are crazy, or I’m just jealous because I can’t write to a prompt.

Hey it’s Wednesday, now you are really going to mess me up.

Gosh… I have missed you and your writing…

Wow! Loved the mafia line, the cute-when-she-said-it line, the survive-without-massive-brain-damage sentiment.

Dare I say, one of your best, Pia.

Maybe I should try limiting my words. My readers would probably give thanks 🙂

    *clap, clap, clap*

If Todd survives he should look for a woman without a stop watch.

of all the words Bone has challenged us with, “ante” is the most difficult–it has such limited use–I thought about using it as a slang for aunt or even antenna or maybe the name of a pet ant! Good job.

Looks like the right is attacking early. First, the Obama school thing. Now this.

It’s terrible not to be able to deliver your BEST break-up speech ever! What a letdown.

    Great, stuff, Pia!

I just thought is was a stupid decision all over, first for him to hire them without knowing their whole history and knowing what would happen as a result, then having to stand by them to save face yet again and let everyone know he really has no idea about their blog stuff.

It shows him to be a little “light between the ears” for a presidential candidate.

I hope the Bone keeps upping the ante, it’s getting better every time.

That was great – some people will do anything to avoid a breakup! I didn’t realize it was written from a word prompt, let me go back and read up. I dont’ think I could write to a prompt, or it would take me a long time. Nicely done.

D’uh – seems I have some catching up to do – “Three Word Wednesday”.

About Me

I live in the South, not South Florida, a few blocks from the ocean, and two blocks from the main street. It's called Main Street. Amazes me too.

I'm from New York. I mostly lived in the Mid-Upper East Side, and the heart of the Upper West Side. It amazes me when people talk about how scared they were of Times Square in the 1970's and 1980's.

As my mother said: "know the streets, look out and you'll be fine."

What was scary was the invasion of the crack dens into "good buildings in good 'hoods." And the greedy landlords who did everything they could to get good tenants out of buildings.

I'm a Long Island girl, and proud of it now.
Then I hated everything about the suburbs. Yet somehow I lived in a few great Long Island Sound towns after high school.
