Five This is mostly back story
I made a page for Colliding Worlds Now I need a button. I write the stories in advance and add the words.
Colliding Worlds is set in 2030, New York, NY
Ella was trying to gather the light. If she could capture the light she could be a princess. She tried to tell the man who was standing in the room to help but he didn’t understand English. Stupid, stupid man. He looked just like the prince in her dreams but the prince she dreamed about would know how to make her a princess. Another man came into the room. They talked together and looked at Ella, but they weren’t saying anything that made sense. Ella took her doll from her home on the pillow and told her doll to help her. Her doll said that she couldn’t help. They had to wait until the woman who played with Ella came back. Ella played with her doll like the woman played with her. Her doll liked to be kissed all over. She couldn’t do the other things. Ella smiled. The woman had told her that when she played with her doll, she would remember the woman and how she made her feel. Ella didn’t think the woman looked like a princess. Princesses were pretty like Ella and her doll. The woman had said somethings that Ella couldn’t remember but she knew the woman loved her. She wondered why the man looked just like her prince. Was she supposed to put a magic spell on him? If she captured the light she could.
Justin thought that this was the end consequence of Denny’s betrayal fifteen years earlier. Nell had showed up at his loft with a digital recording and said:
You’re alone…play this. I don’t care what happens. I’m never talking to him again.
Of course Nell did. She was a professional. She was able to divorce Denny a year later. Twelve years ago Nell and Justin had married. Fourteen months ago she had been kidnapped. The ISB had many people working on it, but Nell hadn’t been found for a year when Denny brought her back to New York and let people knew she was there, though in a very altered condition.
Max came in from the next room. He held what looked like a hybrid radio/Ipod. Justin had never looked so agitated before. Max had spent years gaining Denny’s trust. He was his second-in-command. In reality he worked for Justin at The ISB. Justin paced:
She’s in so deep, the antidote didn’t work. We have to make a stronger version, but I don’t know…
Don’t worry. I have people working on a new one. They’re analyzing the blood samples to see exactly how much
of that substance is in her body.
I don’t know Max, I don’t know. We have to get her out of here tonight.
You know that might be impossible. We have to replace all of Denny’s people.
We can stun them, and inject them with a tranquilizer. It’s more important to get her out than to see the operation through.
It’s going to be difficult.
It’s Nell’s mind. I can’t lose her.
Nadia was troubled. Walking home from her date with Rachel, she couldn’t stop thinking of everything that had happened in the previous two years. Nadia was a low level ISB agent and a nurse. As she had grown up in post Communist Latvia she trusted nobody. She was good at fooling people into thinking that she was loyal but had never been able to completely fool the agency. Nadia had long suspected Nell had something to do with that. She smiled at the sweet irony. Now she totally controlled Nell’s mind, and body though that was an unexpected benefit..
Denny had told her that he worked for a top secret branch of The ISB and that Justin and Nell were rogue agents. They were going to capture Nell and use her as bait to get Justin and a few others. Denny paid Nadia too well for her to question why it was so important to keep Nell alive and to occasionally have flashbacks to real memories. Or why Ella had to remember at times she was Nell. Fourteen months ago she had been waiting in the mountain village in Colombia when Nell was brought in an induced coma. Ella, as Nadia thought of her, was more difficult to control than anybody had suspected she would be, but Nadia liked breaking spirits. This post-modern America was filled with fools.
She had aides to help her. Denny said some had top secret security clearances and were there to make sure Nadia did her job. Others were just aides. Nadia was never to know who was whom. Some were going to quit. Others be fired by Nadia though Denny would tell her who to fire. Since they had been back in New York Nadia never knew who was going to quit or why.
As long as they had been in Colombia it had been easier. Nadia made two more substances that nobody knew about and couldn’t be found in blood samples, to attempt to control Ella. She kept them in secret places and used them sparingly. Yesterday she had used the second one for the first time. Nell’s mind was almost gone from the regular substance. Why not make everybody’s life easier?
Nadia had known Rachel casually for years. When they moved back from Colombia to a townhouse on West End Avenue, three months ago, Rachel was one of the people who hung out at the duplex downstairs. Denny’s top people lived there. Rachel’s beauty was so legendary and complete that in her 40’s she was in more demand than ever as a model.
Rachel and Nadia flirted for about a month. Nadia was sure that Rachel was bi, as the rumors said. One night Rachel had asked her back to her penthouse. Nadia almost believed that Rachel was in love with her and that when the operation was over they were going to openly live together. Nadia had thought that would compensate for a lot.
Last night Rachel had told her that Denny was the rogue agent. Nell and Justin were working against him and had almost accomplished their mission when Nell was kidnapped. Justin had many plants in the downstairs townhouse. All Nadia had to do was give Nell the dosages and wait for instructions from Justin or her.
Nadia didn’t like this new twist. Rachel had promised that after Nell was rescued they could live together, but Nadia didn’t really believe her. Nadia had saved much money and would take money from everybody. She could totally control Ella. Nadia smiled as she began to formulate her own plans.
