When I began this blog my niece was ten and not the most mature ten.
Now she’s an incredibly mature seventeen year old who has to make her first major life decision: Barnard or Tufts?
I think I know what the answer will be but both sound great to me. I’m so so so proud!

She’s so Zooey!
That’s a lot of years.
Good luck to her in her decision. I think they are both great schools.
Congratulations to your niece!
When you began this blog, I was, oh geez, thirty? And not the most mature thirty 🙂
And of course you know I love New Girl. One of the very, very few shows that ever makes me laugh out loud.
@cooper
Thanks Cooper. You could probably hear the screaming–not her–my sister
@Bone
Thanks Bone. Yes I know. It just seemed fitting since she looks like Zooey and emulates her.
Wait she’s going to an Ivy and emulates a TV star? It’s OK I love her too.
They let seventeen year olds pick colleges? Doesn’t seem right.
That sounds like a tough decision but one she can’t go wrong with. Congratulations to her!
@Doug
They do. Seventeen year olds who will probably go to one college only–unlike thee and me
@Sage
Thanks! Her parents think it’s the most difficult decision THEY ever made. She picked the 15 schools she applied to 🙂
Actually she wants to go to a “normal” school now
When the nerds finally get around to conquering the world, Cambridge and Somerville will be the twin capital cities of America.
I can’t comment on the schools (I know people who have very good things to say about both), but in terms of places to live, the area around Tufts comes with my full-throated endorsement
You probably knew what I was going to say about this, but it bears repeating: I fucking love it here.
@EsotericWombat
It will probably be the one. She’s also considering NYU as she got into an honors program. I always knew she was intelligent. I just didn’t know she was going to blow many of her classmates out of the water! And she’s so sweet! And a very proud nerd!
I think I belong there also
