A plea

August 26, 2017 By pia

I wish that everyone I know would speak out against racism–because like it or not–it’s never gone away.

I wish that everyone I know would speak out against anti–Semitism because it’s back (maybe never went away but we just didn’t notice).

I wish that everyone I know would admit that a president pardoning Joe Arpaio is sickening.

I wish that people would have paid attention when the president basically said that there are “good Nazis and good white supremacists.”

There can never be good Nazis or good white supremacists. Never.

I wish people would watch videos on white nationalists because they are sickening. They are people who believe in violence; who believe that minorities should be exterminated.

I know that people will think I’m just being negative.

And that “counter protesting” is the real problem.

I know that people think I shouldn’t focus on the bad but everything great that’s happening–I would love to. (If I could think of great things).

Our country’s in turmoil and I can’t stay silent. I can’t think of too many great things happening in America right now.

Had I been silent I would hope that Charlottesville would have woken me to the horrors that are happening in America, 2017.

Everyone who voted for him or a third party candidate or didn’t vote should seriously think about the damage that’s being inflicted on us.

The rest of us can’t stop thinking about it.

We might not recover from this in my lifetime. Maybe even yours.

And when they come for you don’t say that you weren’t warned or that you didn’t know.

You chose to remain silent.

Your choice.

My heart is breaking.

I couldn’t agree more! I don’t know where this country is heading and it is scary as hell!

About Me

I live in the South, not South Florida, a few blocks from the ocean, and two blocks from the main street. It's called Main Street. Amazes me too.

I'm from New York. I mostly lived in the Mid-Upper East Side, and the heart of the Upper West Side. It amazes me when people talk about how scared they were of Times Square in the 1970's and 1980's.

As my mother said: "know the streets, look out and you'll be fine."

What was scary was the invasion of the crack dens into "good buildings in good 'hoods." And the greedy landlords who did everything they could to get good tenants out of buildings.

I'm a Long Island girl, and proud of it now.
Then I hated everything about the suburbs. Yet somehow I lived in a few great Long Island Sound towns after high school.
